Dates to Remember

Jan 1 Fiscal year commences.  Be sure to check vehicle registration for expiration.
 
Jan 1 Dog licenses due. Proof of current rabies vaccination and neutering certificate
(if applicable) is required.  We do recognize the new 3 year rabies option.    Additional fee of $15.00  charged on all dogs licensed after January 31. 
Exceptions to this are: (a) new dog owner, (b) dog turned six months of age after Jan 31, or (c) you are a new resident to the municipality.

March Election of Town Officials.
 
March Annual Town Meeting.  Citizen's Guide to Town Meeting
 
Apr 1 Farm Tractors not excised before this date will be taxed as personal property.
 
Apr 1 Declaration of property owned should be filed with the Assessors by this date.
The Assessors will be in session to receive lists of properties.  To be valid, these lists should be in writing.  After April 1, the Tax Assessor's decision on valuation is not subject to appeal to a higher authority (County Commissioner) if valuation lists have not been turned in.
 
Apr 1 Veterans and Veteran's Widow Exemption Form must be filed by this date. 
At age 62, veterans are eligible to apply for the exemption.  One time application.
Tax Exemptions for Veterans Bulletin Issued January 16, 2008

 
Apr 1 Homestead Exemption Application must be filed by this date.  This is a one time application.  Forms filed after April 1 of any year will apply to the subsequent year tax assessment.
 
Apr 1 Dogs not licensed before this date will be contacted by a Constable who is entitled to a fee in addition to the licensing fee.
 
May 31 State of Maine Property Tax & Rent Refund Program must be filed by this date.
For refunds of property tax assessed and rent paid, the application period is August 1 through May 31.
 
Sep 15 Interest starts on all unpaid taxes.
 
Dec 31 Town books close.  All unpaid taxes will be listed in the Town Report.
