Here we are again, another year gone by. This being our sixth in regards to the Memorial Bench, the committee agreed this year we should re-coat both the bench and the memorial with the graffiti-pruf and GPR-1. These are formulations that protect the surface of the granite and work as barriers between graffiti and other elements. It also retards the growth of mold, mildew and algae. Last year we discussed this with Provost Monuments as the coating is recommended every 3 to 5 years. Because this monumnet was in such good appearance we delayed it. Now we feel would be a good time to re-coat.
The committee has been helpful to our neighbors in Hallowell as they are in the process of constructing a new granite memorial to replace the wooden structure at the Post Office site. We are also working with the groups Modern Woodman and the American Legion on flag projects and a Join Hands Day.
